Rolfing® S.I.

Rolfing works on a “solid” body to change the spaces in which that body functions. (Ida Rolf)

Rolfing ® S.I. is a method of bodywork that aims to establish harmony and balance in the body structure through touch and movement education.
The human body has an original design in which each structure, bone and muscles, occupies a precise space in relation to other, such as to allow the carrying out optimum of its functions with the least expenditure of energy. This situation of balance can fail with the passing of years for a series of factors different from individual to individual.
Imbalances that result in stiffness, contractures and pain.

The original vision of Dr. Ida Rolf was the observation of the relationship between body structure and the force of gravity; Dr. Rolf realized that people are complex systems consisting of matter and energy, in which the structure and function are not only in continuous interaction among themselves but also with the surrounding environment.

The force of gravity is the energy that permeates the environment in which we live, the more there is alignment in the body, the more gravity becomes a support and not an enemy force.
From the studies of Dr. Rolf Rolfing® S.I.was born.

Rolfing does not address the “symptoms”, but the entire body system and its structure. When you improve your posture and the elasticity of body tissues, including the symptoms of pain are reduced. Often this newfound state of well-being increases the emotional security that is reflected in the relations with the environment and affect mood and general psychological state.

A properly balanced body is in a stable condition and readiness to respond more adequately to the various types of external stimuli to which we are daily called upon to respond.

Rolfing® Structural Integration, is an educational process that is realized through a manipulation of deep connective tissue (bands that cover and separate the muscles, enclose the organs) and aims to balance the structure of the human body in space relative to the force of gravity, bringing back to an alignment more effective the different units of which it is composed, improving its flexibility.
There is no age limit, Rolfing® is equally suitable for the child to the elderly.

How it works

The basic cycle is divided into 10 sessions which are interconnected. Each session is built on the previous one and prepares the next. The seats are all different and each is characterized by an argument, customized for each client, according to individual needs and problems.
During the sessions, the client is invited by the Rolfer® to gain a further understanding and to listen to his body, discover the geography, to hear the differences and changes that occur between an intervention and the other: this helps to understand the transformation and possession of changes to make them their own and make them durable.

Every single match is developed in a path from the position horizontal, with the client lying on a bed, to the vertical position, standing with the customer to assess immediately the changes already during the session.

Through Rolfer® touch, the search for a more efficient motor coordination and refinement of self-perception of each session is designed to promote mental and physical integration of the customer.

The interval between the sessions can vary from one to three / four weeks: the variability depends on the time that everyone needs to assimilate and integrate the work of each session.
Once the basic cycle, it is good to spend a few months before receiving additional sessions to give time for the body to continue its process of reorganization and balancing. Later, you will receive individual sessions or mini-cycles (1,2, or 3 sessions) that will be agreed from time to time according to specific needs.

Barbara Valaguzza

As a pharmaceutical researcher I studied the biochemical mechanisms of drugs on human system. I met the Eastern approach to medicine and I got very interested in body-mind communication until I got certified as a NLP® Practitioner and later as a NLP® Master Practitioner. Then I got certified as a teacher of Beamish Bodymind Balancing® directly fro the co-founder Monica Canducci. I certified as a Certified Rolfer® at the Accademia Italiana del Rolfing®, a school authorized by the European Rolfing® Association and the Rolf Institute® of Structural Integration.
